Who Are We?

We are first and foremost human.  We have the right to be ourselves, to love ourselves, and to make mistakes.

We then, play and become the roles that others put onto us and that we put onto others.  We are pretty much defined by what others expect of us, how they see us and vice versa.

And thus sadly so, we lose sight of who we are...of being human, being just me.  At the same time, we lose sight of who our loved one truly is.

We become unhappy and tired and frustrated.

Now,

How often do we hear parents saying to their son - "Don't cry, you are a boy!"  So does this mean a "boy" cannot be human and cry when he feels sad?

How often do we feel angry, disappointed because our parents did what "parents" shouldn't do.

How often do we feel frustrated because our friends don't seem like how "friends" should be, our bosses don't act like "bosses", our spouses are not "spouses".

As I was growing up, I began to see how my parents were just like...everybody else.  They make mistakes.  At first, it was exasperating, annoying and sometimes maddening...because they have "stepped down from my pedestal as parents".  But then one day, I realized, I understood and... I am free.  Today I love them for who they are.  Unmistakably human and like the rest of us.

It is in our own stereotyping, our expectations that become our source of unhappiness.

Shades of Grey

...things seemed to be so much simpler.  It's either black or white.  Right or wrong. Then as we age, the lines began to blur and the shades of grey appear...

Embrace it All

Being part of it and accepting of all life has to offer is the truest path to happiness and contentment. The sadness and joys. Ups and downs. Triumphs and failures. Life and death.  Embrace it all.

It's harder NOT to do it when you know you can...

With great power, status and wealth come a greater sense of responsibility and wisdom.  In other words, it's only wise to possess any kind of power, status, and wealth, WHEN we know how to use them wisely and responsibly...which sadly is not the case with many among us today.

It's harder NOT to do it when you know you can...
